Book Excerpts
-
People come to
the boat prepared to dive, with all their equipment in a
boat bag. One day, though, we got a call to go to the Holiday
Inn beach to pick up a family of four divers who had checked in
and shown their certification cards to the dive shop the day
before. We lowered the boat ladder to the beach, but could not
believe our eyes: the only family of four coming towards the
boat had boxes of newly purchased gear under their arms. I’m not
kidding! The mask in a box, the fins in a box, the regulator in
a box, the depth gauge in a box. . .
-
The KonTiki was
a rum punch/live band double-decked glass-bottom party boat. The
captain said the most common question was “What deck is the
glass bottom on?”. . .
-
. . . One diver
was SO excited. He and his buddy were standing behind me,
discussing the dive. “Did you see what I saw?” “No, what was
it?” “It was either ... [pausing to think] a crab or a shark,
I’m not sure which!” --- I wondered if it was safe to put these guys
back in the water.

“If you have
the ability to laugh at yourself, as well as the foibles of
other tourist divers, you will love this book!! It is a
hilariously funny account of Gay Morse’s personal encounters
with diver tourists over the years. You will also find,
sprinkled here and there, some helpful advice, which you can
apply to make you a better diver. It is also a delightful
account of the plusses and minuses of life on a small island.
ENJOY !!!!” - Feodor Pitcairn,
Producer of PBS “Ocean Wilds” series
-
"Gay’s achievement in writing this
book, is not only a personal triumph, but an accurate story well
told, with humour, insight and with a well-deserved passion for
this precious gem of an island in the Caribbean – Little
Cayman.” - Former Little Cayman residents;
Bob and Janet Freemantle, Isle of Wight, U.K., England
